Each species in our database has a standardised profile containing detailed fish information, descriptions, and their designated regulations. This article explains what kind of information you can expect to find in each species profile.
Fish info
Each profile includes a range of biological and ecological details such as:
- Max length
- Common length
- Length type (e.g. total length, fork length)
- Max weight
- Depth range
- Max age
- Water type (freshwater, saltwater, or mixed)
- Water temperature (preferred range)
- Common names
- IUCN conservation status (vulnerability level)
⚠️ Note: Some species may have missing data if reliable sources are unavailable.
Descriptions
Species profiles also include descriptive text to help you understand the fish better. These sections cover:
- Short description – general appearance and physical traits
- Habitat – where the species is commonly found
- Distribution – geographical range
- Behaviour – feeding, spawning, and other behaviors
- Edibility – if it’s safe or popular to eat
- Lure suggestions – bait and lure recommendations
Similar Species
At the bottom of each profile, you’ll see suggestions for similar species, helping you identify or compare fish more easily.
